No grades, essays or test scores required. The application requires a two-minute video describing your passion. Now that's a beat I can dance my heart out to - and I hope to help others find and amplify a rhythm of their own.The Live Más Scholarship program primarily supports post-secondary education and opportunities for students aged 16-24 to pursue their unique passions that may not necessarily fit into the typical “academic” or “athletic” scholarship categories. I also left with an intensified rhythm that matches my insatiable drive for all things design. I left this experience with an amazing support system of 30 other insanely passionate scholars. Thank you to the PHENOMENAL workshop facilitator Daniel Horgan and Taco Bell Foundation team Marissa Lara, Gloriane Luna, & Marchela Iahdjian! I'm extremely inspired by the impact and work done by them. The Live Más Scholarship allows us to freely dream, innovate, and create as students taking on new opportunities and challenges. The Taco Bell Foundation is supportive of passions evolving and maturing. The things that fueled my fire when I filmed my 2017 2-minute video were different from my 2019 renewal submission. However by the end, I realized the sessions we sat through, activities we participated in, and in-between bonding moments we lived through culminated into these impassioned 2-minute pitches. I initially questioned why we didn't present on day one. It also highlighted the importance of speaking up especially when the majority isn't listening.īefore we ended the 3-day workshop, every person gave a passion pitch. One act of good can snowball into something larger. Regardless of what class a person was in each individual had the power to decide what impact he or she wanted to leave. An activity involving exchanging coins among different social classes highlighted the relationship between power and influence. This activity reminded us to be on the lookout for opportunities to propel those around us forward. We are constantly focused on growing our own stories. For example, there can be a two-way stream of impact between a mentor and mentee. How will you impact the narrative? What can you contribute? For every new addition to the storyline every person in the skit was affected in someway. The improvisation game "I am a tree" demonstrated how one individual can change a story completely. It’s important to play a role in stories other than your own.A fire that blares an intensity that matches our level of GRIT and ambition - fueling us to take that first step then the next. This fire can be reframed in a positive light. I see the chaotic fire at the bottom of the staircase as a representation of the doubts and fears that hold us back. It's up to us to decide what to tune in on. We were given the metaphor of a long staircase leading to a goal or dream. ![]() This time around we tested our ability to articulate are interests based on what was in our core which resulted in more authentic conversations. The task for the next round was to exchange our passion with a partner without the "safety net" of our notes. For the first round of sharing most of us relied heavily on our notecard. On a notecard, we identified our passion and the "why" behind it. We should try to push ourselves harder even when we think we are maxed out. After repeating this a few times, many of us were able to rotate further after each round. Before the networking session, we did a simple activity of planting our feet in place while rotating as far back as we could. ![]() You can push yourself further than you think. How do we get people to show up and think differently? She emphasized the importance of not only questioning the system but also seeding questions in people as a catalyst for change. Get people to "own it." Meg Garlinghouse, Head of Social Impact at LinkedIn, discussed the intersection of technology and social impact.Last week I attended the Live Más Scholarship Workshop in San Francisco along with 30 other recipients. ![]()
